ABSTRACT

The value of the "touching-bone" acupuncture technique in clinical application was explained through the investigation on the origin of the theory of the "touching-bone" acupuncture technique, the analysis on the characteristics of acupoint selection, the introduction of clinical characteristics and the discussion on the mechanism of acupuncture in treatment. The "touching-bone" acupuncture technique refers to deep needling method, originated from the short needling and needling of the ancient needling methodslisted in the . The target points are the reaction sites on meridian near to bone and the attachments of soft tissues on bone. During the needle insertion, the needle tip is thrust deeply to the bone or the needle body is closely attached to the bone so as to stimulate periosteum specifically. This needling technique contributes to the satisfactory effect on spasmodic, deep-located and intractable pain disorder, motor system diseases, mental diseases and cerebral diseases, etc. Hence, this acupuncture technique deserves to be promoted in clinical application and explored in research.

ABSTRACT

Objectives:The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between the of pericardial adipose tissue (PAT) volume and cardiovascular disease risk factors and energy consumption. Methods:From September 2014 to December 2015,we enrolled 152 inpatients underwent coronary artery CT examination due to suspected coronary heart disease in the Hospital on Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine Affiliated to Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine.The volume of PAT was assessment by 64-slice CT, the energy consumption was assessment by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. The clinical data, biochemical indexes, PAT volume were analyzed. Results : (1) PAT volume was significantly correlated with age, gender, BMI, HOMA-IR, FPG, HDL-C, TG, total physical activity energy consumption, total middle intensity physical activity energy consumption, total energy consumption of sedentary (P<0.05 or P<0.001); (2) PAT volume of patients with insulin resistance was significantly higher than those without insulin resistance; (3) Multiple regression analysis revealed that age, gender, BMI, total middle intensity physical activity energy consumption were independent predictors of PAT volume. Conclusions: Pericardial adipose tissue (PAT) volume is associated with age, gender, systolic blood pressure, BMI, total middle intensity physical activity energy consumption.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinicopathological features and prognosis of idiopathic membranous nephropathy(IMN)in adolescents. Methods This was a retrospective study on IMN patients hospitalized between June 2012 and December 2014,and a total of 33 IMN patients aged between 13 and 24 years old were enrolled in the study.Meanwhile,33 IMN patients aged more than 24 years old were selected randomly as control group during the same period.Diagnosis was confirmed by renal biopsy,and the secondary causes of membranous nephropathy were ruled out.Data collected from medical record and biopsy were analyzed. Results In the adolescent IMN group,the mean age at renal biopsy was(20±3)years old,and the male/female ratio was 22/11.Twenty-three cases presented as nephrotic syndrome.Systolic and diastolic pressures were(127±13)mmHg and(77±9)mmHg,respectively.The median 24-hour urine protein was 5.14(3.39,9.31)g/d,and the median serum creatinine was 62(52,73)μmol/L.The positive rate of serum anti-phospholipase A2 receptor in adolescent group was 54%.Compared with control group,the adolescent patients had lower incidence of hypertension and higher baseline estimated glomerular filtration rate level [15.2% vs.39.3%,χ=4.889,P=0.03;125 ml/(min·1.73m)vs.100 ml/(min·1.73m),U=137.5,P<0.001].According to IMN staging criteria in electron microscopy,adolescent patients were classified as one case in stage I,21 in stage Ⅱ,and 11 in stage Ⅲ or higher.The positive rates of IgG1,IgG2,IgG3 and IgG4 subclass staining in glomeruli were 46.9%,3.1%,56.3%,and 87.5%,respectively.Compared with control group,the adolescent patients had lower incidence of renal interstitial fibrosis and arteriolar lesions(6.1% vs.66.7%,χ=26.19,P<0.001;15.2% vs.66.7%,χ=18.11,P<0.001).Three patients lost to follow-up while others started steroid combined with cyclosporine A(n=20),cyclophosphamide(n=7),or mycophenolate(n=1)or solely(n=2).After a median follow-up of 18(12,24)months,the median proteinuria decreased to 0.20(0.10,0.42)g/d,whereas serum creatinine level remained stable [69(56.8,81.3)μmol/L].Seventeen patients(56.7%)achieved complete remission(CR),and the remaining 13 patients(43.4%)achieved partial remission(PR).The median time of CR and PR were three and six months,respectively.Only one patient relapsed during the follow-up.Also,21 cases received maintenance therapy including cyclosporine A(n=18),azathioprine(n=2)and mycophenolate(n=1).Conclusions The immunofluorescence IgG subclass in glomeruli and distribution of serum anti-phospholipase A2 receptor in adolescent IMN patients are similar to those in older IMN patients.IMN patients in adolescents responded well to immunosuppressive therapy.Cyclosporine A in low dose as maintenance therapy is effective after achieving remission,and will not increase risk of nephrotoxicity.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical value of ~(99)Tc~m-ethylenedicysteine (EC) diuretic renography (DR) in pre-and post-operative pediatric congenital hydronephrosis.Methods The DR with injection of Furosemide at 15 min of forty children with hydronephrosis was retrospectively studied.The preoperative renal blood perfusion rate (BPR),effective renal plasma flow (ERPF),grade of hydronephrosis,renogram and renal dynamic imaging of pre- and post-operative kidneys were compared.The t-test and Mann-Whitney test were used for data analysis.Results (1) Of 40 pathological kidneys,the BPR increased 5.99% (t=-5.13,P<0.01)from pre-operative to post-operative:(34.05±11.07)% to (40.04±8.56)%.The ERPF increased 12.48 ml/min(t=-4.35,P<0.01) from pre-operative to post-operative:(57.81±34.32)ml/min to(70.29±5.37)ml/min.(2)The grade of hydronephrosis of 40 pathological kidneys improved significantly(Z=-2.64,P<0.01) with the mean sum of ranks of 47.21 pre-operatively to 33.79 post-operatively.(3) As the hydronephrosis worsened,the collecting system became bigger,the renal parenchyma became thinner,the extent of intrarenal parenchymal photopenia became larger and the response to diuretic challenge in pathological kidneys decreased or became totally irresponsive.(4)Thirty-seven cases of obstruction at ureteropelvic junction (UPJO) and 3 cases at ureterovesical junction (UVJO) were diagnosed by DR,which were all confirmed by surgery.Conclusions DR is a reliable method to evaluate pediatric congenital hydronephrosis.It can accurately reflect the grade and (or) severity of the disease,guide therapy and assess the therapeutic success of operation.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the effects of tetrandrine (Tet) on the pulmonary capillary permeability in rats with acute lung injury induced by intravenous injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Thirty-two healthy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: the model group, the normal group, the Tet prevention group and the Tet treatment group, 8 in each group. All rats except those in the normal group, were established into acute lung injury model by intravenous injection of LPS. Intravenous injection of Tet (20 mg/ kg) were given to the Tet prevention group 30 min before and to the Tet treatment group 30 min after modeling respectively, and equal volume of normal saline was given to the other two groups instead. Arterial blood samples were collected to determine PaO2 and PaCO2 at the time points of immediately after modeling (0 h), 0.5 h, 2 h, 4 h, 6 h. The animals were sacrificed by the end of the experiment, the wet/dry weight ratio of lung (W/ D), neutrophil percentage in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), concentration of TNF-a in peripheral blood and BALF by ELISA, and content of malonaldehyde (MDA) in lobus inferior pulmonis homogenate by thio barbituric acid colorimetric method were determined. Pathological change of the upper lobe of lung was examined and lung injury was scored as well.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>As compared with that in the model group, the level of PaO2 was higher in Tet prevention group at 0.5 h, 2 h, 4 h, 6 h and in the Tet treatment group at 2 h, 4 h, 6 h (P< 0.05); and the content of TNF-alpha, MDA and neutrophil percentage in BALF, as well as W/D and lung injury score were lower in the Tet prevention group and the Tet treatment group (P <0.05). Pathological changes of lung in the two Tet groups were all better than those in the model group.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Early intervention with tetrandrine shows a protectiv effect on rats against acute lung injury induced by intravenous injection of LPS.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the suppressive role of emodin on the growth and its effect on the proliferation cycle and apoptotic gene of human lung adenocarcinoma cell line Anip 973.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The survival rate and the inhibitory rate of Anip 973 cell in vitro were detected by MTT colorimetric assay and cell growth curve assay at different time points under different concentration of emodin; the cell proliferation cycle and the apoptotic rate were examined with flow cytometry analysis, and Caspase-3 protein expression was measured by immunoblotting assay.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Emodin inhibited the proliferation of Anip 973 cell at G0/G1 phase, decreased the cell ratio at S phase and activated the Caspase-3 protein. It suppressed the growth of tumor cells and raised the apoptotic rate in a concentration and time depending manner in a certain extent.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Emodin could suppress the proliferation of Anip 973 cell, and its mechanism of anticancer effect may be through activating Caspase-3, to induce apoptosis and block cell cycle.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the anti-tumor mechanisms of emodin on human lung adenocarcinoma cell line Anip973 (LACC).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The influence of emodin of different concentration at different time on LACC proliferation were determined and compared using MTT colorimeric assay and cell growth curve assay. And the cell apoptotic rate was determined by flow cytometry and analyzed with electronic microscope.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>In a certain range, the higher concentration and longer acting time of emodin could induce the stronger inhibitory effect on tumor cell growth and the higher apoptotic rate. The proliferation inhibitory rate reached 90% after LACC being treated with emodin 60 micromol/L for 72h.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Emodin can significantly inhibit proliferation of human LACC, showing dose-effect and time-effect relationship.</p>
